About Us
Welcome to the AKRON METRO PARKS HIKING CLUB
Founded in 1965 after the very first Summit Metro Parks Fall Hiking Spree, our club was created for people who wanted to keep the adventure going all year long. Today, we’re still exploring, laughing, and logging miles together across some of the most beautiful trails in Ohio.
We hike throughout Summit County, from the scenic paths of the Akron Metro Parks and Cuyahoga Valley National Park to local neighborhoods, nature preserves, and the Hike & Bike Trail. Most of our hikes are around 5 miles, but we also mix things up with shorter 3 mile leisure walks and longer 7 mile (or more!) treks for those who like a challenge.
Our club isn’t just about hiking, it’s about community. We host fun social events like our annual summer picnic, holiday gatherings, and special celebrations. In honor of our 50th anniversary in 2015, we sponsored a park bench along the Piney Woods Trail in Goodyear Heights Metro Park, a lasting symbol of our love for the trails.
Looking for a bigger adventure? We organize multi-day hiking trips to other parts of Ohio, neighboring states, and occasionally even international destinations!
If you enjoy good company, fresh air, and a healthy dose of exercise, come join us, it’s easy! Just find a hike you would like to do on the “hiking schedule” on this webpage. Then show up 10 minutes early for the scheduled hike to try us out. Your first hike is free as our guest — after that, annual membership is just $10 for individuals or $15 for families. Contact Shelly Karm, Club President @ (330) 608-6512 if you have any further questions.
